Pronunciation Notes
The Two “ai” Vowels: ใ◌ and ไ◌
Both of these vowels make the exact same “ai” sound (like in “Thai“).
- ไ◌ (sara ai maimalai) is the most common form.
- ใ◌ (sara ai maimuan) is used in only 20 specific words in the entire Thai language. You will learn them as we go. The new word ใจ (jai) is one of them.
The “ao” Vowel: เ◌า
This vowel has two parts that surround the consonant. The เ comes before and the า comes after. Together, they make an “ao” sound (like the “ow” in “cow“).
